Gov wants to fund mass transit with $350 million from gas tax (Chicago Sun-Times)

Well, King Rod is at it once again, wanting 99 of Illinois' counties to devote their resources to support the three that make up Chicagoland, by siphoning off $350 million from Illinois' gasoline tax to pay for the CTA. Madigan supports a regional sales tax. Which is a bad move, too.

The reason the CTA is hurting is because the massive system does not have enough riders to make it go financially. The reason there aren't enough riders is because the suburbanites would rather drive than take public trans.

Wouldn't it make it more equitable to smack those counties with a gasoline tax, and push more of those people into using their vehicles more wisely?

Gov wants to fund mass transit with $350 million from gas tax (Chicago Sun-Times) - A plan being floated by Gov. Blagojevich to pay for mass transit would siphon revenue from the gasoline sales tax in Cook and the collar counties and route the money to the CTA and its fellow transit agencies, a spokesman for House Minority leader Tom Cross said Wednesday.
