Well, it sure looks like the Obama Cash for Clunkers program is another of those pie in the sky ideas with little if any benefit.  And now, with the "fine tuning" of the EPA numbers, those who attempted to cash in the program are getting demands for the $4500 back - or the return of their new car.

I don't have a problem, per se, with the idea of this program.  I think the idea of getting as many gas guzzling behemoths off the road as possible as fast as possible makes perfectly good sense.  But offering it for any new car, regardless of where it was manufactured or assembled - when the American people now literally own the entire US-based auto industry, except for Ford?

As a stockholder, I am PISSED that anyone EXCEPT those companies is eligible for MY MONEY.  And me - I will never ever buy a GM-produced vehicle, not after the abuse I took at the hands of one of their dealers AND their Chevrolet division, when the paint on a brand new car started flaking off and they both refused to do anything about it.  A different dealer - 75 miles away - made good on the RECALL advisory for that paint, but the local dealer - he reneged on the work and GM backed him up DESPITE that recall.

I doubt I ever buy another US-manufactured vehicle. The only one I've driven that gave me any sense of being quality was the hew Charger.  Loved the car, hated the gas mileage.
